Vermillion Sands:A two-day workshop at L'Institut Supérieur des Arts de Toulouse, painting class of Professor Emmanuelle Castellan

The main goal here was to help the first and second year painting students to loosen up their painting both technically and conceptually, in a project centered around the story Vermillion Sands by JG Ballard.

We brought images from our smart phone cameras together with select content from the renown  ancient library at the academy.

Then we experimented with ways to use  this special research and silkscreen techniques in combination with painting practice.

A one-week workshop at ESADMM Marseille, with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year students of Professor Katharina Schmidt

I designed this workshop to draw attention to drawing and painting as an open process connected to our environment.

The context of the school’s environment shaped our activities:  From collage, to perfume making to politcal forum, we observed and painted mental and physical landscapes. We then explored different approaches to dealing with the site of the workshop, the architecture of the school, and its broader socio-political context.

Many participants included configurations of personal items as part of our installation. This workshop proposed a collective approach to art making that could interweave the work and voice of each participant.
